FAQs from Iwakuni's Information Page on Facebook

I'm looking for a gift shop that sells tea pots in Iwakuni.
Places to look: the thrift store on base (located next to the chapel), the biannual (Spring and Fall) bazaar on base, Dragonfly Secondhand Store, Angel Gift & Pawn outside the main gate, Japanese gift shop across the street from NAFCO (in the same parking lot as Bulldog and Manso.

I live off base and need to recycle cardboard. Can I drop it off on base?
Yes. People living off base can bring recyclables on base but not unsorted garbage. The recycling center (located across from the Sakura Theater) has outside bins for soda cans, magazines, newspapers and cardboard.

Where can I find a used car to buy in Iwakuni?
The best places to find a car for sale are: the "lemon lot" across from the Sakura Theater, ads posted on the corkboards of the midrises, and Iwakuni's classified pages on Facebook.

I want to take the train to Hiroshima. Where can I park my car in downtown Iwakuni?
There is a parking lot directly in front of the train station that charges by the hour, a parking lot under DeoDeo (an electronics store) that charges a 500 Yen flat rate, a parking lot by Fuji Grand (a department/grocery store), and more parking if you follow the road past Coco's Curry.

Where can I get a manicure or pedicure in Iwakuni?
Lily's Nails, a home-based business on base, is great - check out her Facebook page.

What are my options for watching American TV shows in Japan?
Usually websites block our Japanese IP addresses due to overseas licensing differences, but there are a few work-arounds: use HotSpotShield or Strong VPN to make it appear that you have an American IP address and use the following services: FastPass, Project Free TV, Hulu/Hulu Plus, Tubeplus.me, ch131.com, zmovie.tv, couchtuner.eu, or Netflix.

What is the airport code for the new Iwakuni Kintaikyo Airport?
The airport code is IWK. It shows up on United and ANA's websites, but not on Kayak.com yet.

How can I find out which movies are showing in Hiroshima?
Check out the Alpark Mall Cinema showtimes website. Be aware that if it says "SUB" after the title, it will have Japanese subtitles, but "DUB" means it will be voiced over in Japanese.

What are the hours of the Iwakuni Thrift Shop?
Monday: 1200-1500
Wed & Fri: 1000-1300 & 1600-1830
Saturday: 1000-1300

You can drop items off at anytime on the right side of the building.

How can I find the schedules for the Japanese train system?
You can find the schedules and price estimates for Japanese Railways (JR) trains at Hyperdia.com.

I would like to hire "The Balloon Guy" for an upcoming children's party. What is his number?
The balloon guy is well known around base and makes any character or item out of balloons! His number is: 090 4895 5824.

I will try to update this as I see more questions being asked on Iwakuni's Facebook pages. Please email me at heatherrocks128@gmail.com if you would like to contribute some Q&As!
